- Description
- The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of approximately 60,000 households in the United States that is conducted by the Bureau of Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The survey is administered both in person and through telephone interviews. It provides a comprehensive body of data on the labor force, employment, unemployment, persons not in the labor force, hours of work, earnings, and other demographic and labor characteristics. Labor force data includes individuals aged 16 and over (no upper age limit).

The BLS site provides tables and text (HTML or PDF), as well as compressed flat files for those wanting to download the entire database. The Census site provides the data as tables or as download via file transfer protocol (FTP) in several zipped formats, as well as providing access to the Table Creator.
