This dataset was generated through a prospective randomized, double-blind study to determine the effects of serial phlebotomy on vascular endothelial function in the brachial artery. Subjects of the study were 84 iron-replete, non-anemia men and post-menopausal women age 40-70 years. Subjects were randomly assigned to three study treatment groups:

1. Four serial phlebotomy procedures each followed by intravenous infusion of placebo normal saline
2. Four serial phlebotomy procedures each followed by intravenous infusion to replete lost iron
3. Four serial sham phlebotomy procedures each followed by intravenous infusion of placebo normal saline.

Phlebotomy procedures were conducted at 56-day intervals, and brachial artery reactivity (BAR) testing was done before and after oral methionine administration with high-resolution duplex ultrasound imaging before and one week after the fourth study phlebotomy. Blood sampling for biochemical markers was performed by blinded research staff before phlebotomy at visit 2 and one week after the fourth phlebotomy procedure at visit 7.
